Bell Wall at the Wizard Academy
A few weeks ago I photographed a wedding for a friend & business associate at the Chapel Dulcinea on the campus of the Wizard Academy just outside Austin. (I know, I don't typically shoot weddings... but this was for a friend, and he asked very nicely.) Anyway... If you have not been out there, the grounds are beautiful. The amazing thing is they don't charge for the use of their facility for weddings. I arrived a bit early for the ceremony so I walked around a bit and shot a few photos. This is called the Bell Wall.

Day 323 - Big business day

Today the folks from Red Solidaria came to make payments. You can read about this welfare program on my blog, but the gist of it is that the every two months the government makes to payments to poor families who have children in school.
With all of this cash floating around town on a single morning, vendors from all over the area come in to aprovechar—take advantage. Some vendors seem to just follow the armored cars around, setting up shop in each town where Red Solidaria sets up. Many of the things for sale are common necessities: clothing, food, household items, etc. But there are also non-essentials for sale. One person told me that the phone companies make a couple thousand dollars on days when Red Solidaria comes to town.
Be that as it may, the payments are a tremendous help to those who know how to manage the money wisely, and the program's requirements—good attendance at school, regular health check-ups, and trainings for parents—are only positive.
