The New Chieftain Pub-Inside

It’s three years since the old Chieftain (formerly the Woodman and Ploughman’s Table) in Welwyn Garden City burnt down. Now the (much smaller) Chieftain has opened.

The atmosphere is more family and business oriented. Gone are the pool tables and there’s only one slot machine. The layout is designed for small groups and looks more ‘up market’ than the old pub. It’s completely open plan with just one bar in the middle running a third of the length. It’s fitted with a mixture of olde worlde type fixtures and more traditional pub type furniture. The emphasis is to take away the pub label and give it a more relaxed restaurant theme.

The intention is to keep out the roughnecks who frequented the previous incarnations and on the whole it does look as though the undesirables would not feel comfortable in here.
