These signs for family businesses in Andover probably date from the late 19th century: H W Burden was founded in the 1880s and moved to No.1 High Street just after 1900. Shaws operated from 1808 to 1988, Laytons from 1853 to 1952, Bucklands from before 1871 and Cockings before 1859. In 1885, John Bienvenu took over the chemists founded by R Gould in 1813. They are now all defunct although Shaws and Burdens survived until the 1980s. The board is currently displayed at Finkley Down Farm Park.
